Towards the end of 2018, I received a really exciting email asking me to produce some artwork for Lush. I'm a huge fan of Lush and spend ridiculous amounts of time in their shop so this was a big deal for me!

The brief was from Suzie Hackney, one of the creative directors at Lush who I met at the New Designers expo when I first graduated. We have worked together on a few personal projects since then and she has been wonderfully supportive of my work over the last 3 years, so it was really exciting to hear from her again when she reached out about this job!

The brief itself was to create an illustration for a knotwrap (a scarf made from recycled bottles which is used as a form of re-usable packaging) on the theme of 'mother nature'. Suzie mentioned a desire to go down a 70s, funky theme with the design so I set to work producing a couple of rough designs.

We decided to go ahead with the first and last designs, so the next step was to produce some colour roughs.

These images don't really do the designs justice because of the change from CMYK to RGB but you can hopefully get an idea of where I was going! From here, we made further changes and continued to refine the designs.

At this point, we decided to go ahead with just the face design and made changes to this image to make it slightly less rigid and symmetrical as well as altering the colours and adding in some neon Pantones (exciting!). And then we ended up at the finished product below!

I am super pleased with how it came out and working with Suzie was, as always, a really fun experience! Massive thank you to Suzie for the opportunity, it is always wonderful when you get to work with companies that you love!

You can buy the knotwrap in store or online at Lush's website!
